Berkeley, Calif. - Freshman Alex Martin lead the way for the Utah State gymnastics team in a third place finish against some tough competition late Friday night. The Aggies (194.150) missed second place by one tenth of a point behind #17 Arizona State (194.250). The hosts of the meet, California, won the meet with a score of 195.95 with San Jose State rounding out the scores with a 193.875 score.

Martin tied for first on the bars with a 9.900 performance, while her 38.750 score in the all-around was good for a 5th place finish. Liesel Kohler tied for fifth on the floor, scoring 9.800. Rachael Mandy lead USU gymnasts on the vault with a career-high 9.800 and Gretchen Goerlitz scored 9.800 on the floor to lead the Aggies.

"This is a great score to have on the road," said head coah Ray Corn. "I'm very excited, I saw a much improved team from last week. We looked competitive. I know this team can be very good."

USU (4-3) will stay on the road this Friday Jan. 30 to face Boise State. The Aggies will kick off their home season on Feb. 6 against Southern Utah.
