LOGAN, Utah -Richelle Moon led a Utah State's women's tennis comeback that came up short against Gonzaga here Sunday as the Aggies dropped their home opener 5-2. With the loss the Aggies fall to 0-2 while the Bulldogs improve to 1-1.
Moon, one of only two seniors on the team, had a perfect match as she won the number three singles 6-0, 6-0 over Gonzaga's Leigh Orne. "I thought she did great," said head coach Christian Wright. "She didn't give her opponent a chance to get any confidence." Moon opened up the match by breaking Orne's serve and never looked back.
Utah State lost the doubles point 2-1 with the lone Aggie doubles victory coming from Jill Smith and Lauren Monson in number three doubles (8-1). The Aggies found themselves down 3-0 after losing the number one and number two singles. Moon's victory was quickly followed by a 6-3, 6-3 win from teammate Courtney Anderson. After taking the first set 6-4, Carolyn Stephens dropped the next two sets 6-4, 6-4 in number four singles.
