POCATELLO, Idaho -Courtney Anderson won the number five singles for the second straight match as Utah State's women's tennis defeated Idaho State 5-2 here Wednesday. USU improves to 1-2 while ISU falls to 1-1 on the season.
USU started the match winning the doubles point for the first time this season. Jill Smith and Lauren Monson won their doubles match for the second straight match. Andrea Hansen and Richelle Moon won their first doubles point of the season to give the Aggies the 2-1 win for the doubles point.
Lindsey Bennion led the singles victories as she won the number one singles in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. "We really felt Bennion could beat (Melanie) Kranz," said head coach Chris Wright. "I thought against Gonzaga Bennion overplayed some points. Tonight she did a good job of being patient and letting the points come to her."
Also winning singles matches for the Aggies were Smith, Anderson and Hansen. It was the first singles victory of the season for Bennion, Smith and Hansen. Coming into the night the Aggies were 0-2 in three set matches but won both of the three set matches against ISU.
USU will return home Feb. 11 when they host in-state rival Weber State at 1 p.m. at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club.
