FULLERTON, Calif. - Aggie gymnast Jessica Parenti won the all-around with a 38.175 as Utah State gymnastics placed fourth in its opening meet of the 2006 season. Utah State finished with a team score of 187.925 to finish behind meet champion North Carolina State (188.575), second-place San Jose State (188.450) and third-place Cal State Fullerton (187.975). The Aggies are now 0-2 in the WAC and 0-3 overall.

Parenti easily won the all-around with a third place finish on beam (9.625) and a tie for the third place on vault (9.800). She took sixth on the floor (9.600) while placing 17th on bars with a 9.150. Michelle Minotti of San Jose State was the closest competitor in the all-around with a 37.375.

Utah State started the rotation with the floor routine where Jackie Fogli, Liesel Kohler and Ana Rickard took 13th, 14th and 15th-place with scores of 9.400, 9.350 and 9.325 respectively.

On the vault Fogli took fifth with a 9.775 and Rachael Mandy took sixth with a 9.750.

Mandy was the top finisher for the Aggies on bars in a three-way tie for ninth (9.550). Katie Omann finished with a 9.525 to tie for twelfth.

Two freshmen competed for the Aggies on beam and finished behind Parenti in fourth and eighth place. Brittany Price tied for fourth with a 9.525 and Sarah Johnson finished eighth with a 9.225.

Although the Aggies finished in fourth place, Utah State head coach Ray Corn was not completely displeased with the teams effort.

"We did see some bright spots tonight," Corn said. "Parenti handily won the all-around, and we did have some good performances from the other ladies.

We started on the floor with some little, but critical, mistakes and we'll continue to work on those and learn from them," Corn said.

Utah State will compete again next Sunday, Jan. 15 at Texas Woman's with Centenary and LSU. The meet will begin at 1 p.m. MST.
