SALT LAKE CITY, Utah-- - Utah State's women's tennis team defeated Portland in Salt Lake City on Saturday evening. With the win the Aggies improved their spring record to 6-8.

The Aggies started off strong against Portland winning the first two of three doubles matches. At the No.1 spot Lindsey Bennion and Andrea Barker defeated Lindsey Griffin and Katie Kennel 8-5. Jill Smith and Lauren Monson took the No. 2 spot in doubles defeating Jaclyn Soltysik and Laura Leoni 8--6. Portland's Anna Gullickson and Jenna Tanzer defeated Utah State's Courtney Anderson and Dee-Dee Nelson 8-6.

Utah State continued to play strong in singles action winning five of their six matches. At the No. 1 spot in singles Lindsey Bennion defeated Lindsey Griffin 7-6, 6-3. Jill Smith took the No. 2 spot defeating Cristin Sammis 6-7, 6-1, (10-5). Courtney Anderson continues to lead the Aggies in singles and improves her singles record to 12-2 this spring season defeating Jaclyn Soltysik 6-4, 6-0.

The Aggies will be in action again on Sun., March 12 here in Logan against Idaho. The match will begin at 1 p.m. and will be held at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club.
