LOGAN, Utah - Utah State women's tennis improved to 4-4 on the season with a 5-2 victory over Weber State on Thursday at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club. The Aggies played without senior Courtney Anderson due to a wrist injury.
The Aggies won the first two doubles matches, earning the doubles point. Sisters Erin and Lauren Monson downed WSU's Inalise Pienaar and Gabriela Venditto, 8-0, at number one while Aggies Dee-Dee Nelson and Brianna Harris defeated Grayce Farias and Keya Adamson, 8-1, at number two.
"The girls were better than they have been all year in doubles," said USU head coach Christian Wright. "They were choosing smart shots and they fought harder than ever."
With Anderson's injury, each Aggie played one spot up. Freshman Erin Monson set the pace in the singles action at number one, defeating Inalise Pienaar, 6-0, 6-0. USU won three of the remaining five matches, with Dee-Dee Nelson, Lauren Monson and Bridgette Strickland recording victories.
The Aggies next action will be home against Utah Sat., Feb. 24 at 1 p.m. at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club. All home matches are free to the public.
