Aggie Spikers Defeat Louisiana Tech In Four Sets

RUSTON, La. - Senior outside hitter Kris Hymas recorded a career-high 16 kills to lead Utah State to a four-set win (25-20, 25-22, 19-25, 25-17) against Louisiana Tech here Saturday night. USU improves to 11-16 overall and 9-7 in the Western Athletic Conference with the win, while LTU falls to 4-23 on the season and 0-16 in league play with the loss. USU ends the regular season in fourth-place in the WAC.

Hymas (South Jordan, Utah) added five digs and hit a career-high .316 (16-4-38) in the match for Utah State, while sophomore middle blocker Katie Astle (Sandy, Utah) added nine kills and three blocks, and hit .500 (9-2-14). Senior middle blocker Rebecca Anderson (Logan, Utah) also had nine kills in the match for USU.

KC Clayton and Natasha Kolunija each had 10 kills to lead Louisiana Tech.

Both teams struggled offensively in the first two sets as Utah State hit just .086 (11-8-35) in set one, but still notched a five-point win as it limited Louisiana Tech to a negative .083 (7-10-36) hitting percentage. USU hit just .023 (11-10-44) in the second set as compared to a .105 (10-6-38) hitting percentage for LTU, but still managed to record a three-point win as it posted four service aces in the set, including three by sophomore outside hitter Lori Wilson (Provo, Utah).

Louisiana Tech rebounded with a six-point win in the third set as it hit .500 (17-1-32), while Utah State hit .333 (14-4-30). In the fourth and final set, USU hit .216 (13-5-37) and limited the Lady Techsters to a negative .030 (9-10-33) hitting percentage to post the eight-point win.

Utah State finished the match by hitting .151 (49-27-146) and Louisiana Tech hit .115 (43-27-139). USU also recorded six more digs (59-53) and four more service aces (7-3) in the match, while LTU had three more team blocks (12-9).

Next up for Utah State will be the 2008 WAC Volleyball Tournament from Thursday, Nov. 20 through Sunday, Nov. 23 in Honolulu.
