LOGAN, Utah - Utah State women's tennis concludes the USU Open, Friday, wrapping up action a day early. The Aggies finish with wins in flight A, flight B and in doubles.

The flight A final round was an Aggie battle between junior Hailey Swenson and freshman Jaclyn West. Swenson topped West, 6-4, 6-3.

"It was a little difficult for us to have a few matches where we played each other, but the girls handled it really well," USU head coach Christian Wright said.

Swenson and West later paired up in doubles action, sweeping the competition. Yesterday, Swenson and West beat Idaho State's Therese Karlsson and Madison Snevily, 8-1, in the quarterfinal round. In Friday's action, the pair continued by defeating USU's sophomore Carla Limon and junior Taylor Perry, 8-4, in the semifinal round and the Wildcats' Elsje Beneke and Caroline Drugge, 8-3, in the final round.

USU continued to dominate play with freshman Kristina Voytsekhovich defeating fellow Aggie junior Taylor Perry, 6-3, 6-3, to take the title in flight B.

"We had a lot of great effort out there, and our girls played really hard," Wright said. "It is nice to be at home and great to play on the new courts"

The final round of flight C was a clash between the Wildcats' Elsje Beneke and Aggie senior Britney Watts. Beneke clawed her way back through three sets to defeat Watts, 1-6, 6-2, 10-6.

Idaho State swept the consolation rounds with Rilee Moorehead, Sophie Dang and Rachel Ryan taking flight A, B and C, respectively.

The tournament between Weber State, Idaho State, and Utah State was scheduled to conclude Saturday, but weather permitted an early finish.

"We had a great time with all the school traffic stopping to watch a few sets, and we thank Idaho State and Weber State for coming out," Wright added. "The tournament will grow each year, and we are excited to bring it to our great new courts."

The Aggies will resume play Wednesday, Oct. 14 in Las Vegas, Nev. in the ITA Regionals. The ITA Regionals will continue through Saturday, Oct. 17.
