LOGAN, Utah - Utah State women's tennis lost a close match to Weber State, 4-3, Wednesday at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club. USU is now 1-7 in dual match action.
In singles action, USU sophomore Hailey Swenson swept WSU's Greyce Farias, 6-0, 6-0 at the number one singles spot. Fellow Aggie freshman Monica Abella defeated the Wildcats' Caroline Drugge, 6-2, 7-6, at the number three position. Freshman Carla Limon, sophomore Taylor Perry and senior Bridgette Strickland all lost in straight sets, while Aggie junior Britney Watts fell to Elsje Beneke 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, at the number six spot.
In doubles play, USU's Strickland and Swenson defeated WSU's Drugge and Moore, 9-7, at the number one spot. To take the doubles point, the Aggies' Abella and Limon beat the Wildcats' Karlie Hancock and Elsje Beneke 8-6, at number two doubles.
Utah State will continue action Wednesday, March 4, hosting Idaho State at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club at 1 p.m. Admission to all USU tennis matches is free to the public.
