BOISE, Idaho - Utah State gymnastics posted its second-best beam score of the season with a 47.850 in registering a 189.225 final score Friday in a tri-meet with Brigham Young, hosted by Boise State at BSU's Taco Bell Arena.
The host Broncos won the meet with a 195.625 while the Cougars were second with a 193.750 and the Aggies finished third with the 189.225.
Friday's action also saw the return of junior Lyndsie Boone, who missed the previous four meets and last month of action with a knee injury suffered back on Feb. 5.
USU totalled its second-best beam score of the season with 47.850, as well as posting a 46.750 on bars, a 46.675 on floor and a 47.950 on vault for a final score of 189.225. The Aggies' 47.950 on vault was their fifth-best of the season.
BSU tallied a 49.100 on vault, 48.900 on bars, 48.775 on beam and 48.850 on floor for its winning score of 195.625. BYU logged a 48.250 on floor, 48.800 on vault, 48.550 on bars and 48.150 on beam for a 193.750 final score.
Boone was second in the all-around with a 38.225 final score, while sophomore Haley Hogan was third with a career-best 38.050. Freshman Amanda Watamaniuk was fourth with a 38.025 and senior Heather Heinrich was fifth with a 37.350.
Heinrich was the top Aggie gymnast on both vault and floor, tying for third on vault with a season-high tying 9.825, .025 off her career-best of 9.850, as well as tying for USU's top vault score this season. On floor, Heinrich registered a 9.700, finishing in a tie for fourth. Watamaniuk was the Aggies' top bars finisher, tying for eighth with a 9.725, which ties her season-high for the third time this season. Sophomore Rebecca Holliday was seventh on beam for USU's top score on the apparatus with a season-best 9.750, which is the second-highest beam score of the season.
The Aggies started the tri-meet on bars, while the Cougars were on floor and the host Broncos were on vault.
Boone opened USU's bars rotation with a 9.600, before Hogan followed with a 9.625 Watamaniuk then notched a 9.725, tying her career-high for the third time this season. That preceded Holliday's 9.625 and Heinrich closed out the rotation with an 8.175 giving Utah State a 46.750 on bars.
Boise State logged a 49.100 on vault while BYU posted a floor score of 48.250.
For the second rotation, the Aggies were on beam, with Boone starting things off with a 9.425, followed by Hogan and Watamaniuk with 9.600 and 9.425 respectively. Holliday then notched a 9.750, topping her season-high for the second-straight meet as well as logging the Aggies' second-highest beam score this season, only trailing a 9.800 by Heinrich on Feb. 19. Heinrich concluded USU's beam rotation with a 9.625, as the Aggies totalled on 47.850 on beam, their second-best beam score of the season behind a 47.900 at Southern Utah on Jan. 22.
The Broncos bucked out a 48.900 on bars while the Cougars collected a 48.800 on vault, and at the meet's midway point, Boise State led with a 98.000 while BYU was second with a 97.050 and Utah State was in third with a 94.600.
USU was on floor for the third rotation, with Hogan leading off the lineup with a 9.375, followed by sophomore Brandie Dickson's 8.550. After Watamaniuk posted a 9.425, Heinrich tallied a 9.700 and Boone finished the rotation with a 9.625, as the Aggies collected a 46.675 on floor.
BSU posted a 48.775 on beam to lead after three with a 146.775 sub-total while BYU registered a 48.550 on bars for a 145.600 score and USU was in third with a 141.275 sub-total.
On vault for the fourth and final rotation, a 9.450 by Hogan was followed by a 9.575 from Boone, before Watamaniuk logged a 9.450. A 9.650 by Holliday preceded Heinrich's season-high tying 9.825, .025 off her career-best of 9.850, as well as tying for USU's top vault score this season. The Aggies totalled a 47.950 on vault for USU's final score of 189.225.
Utah State returns home to the friendly confines of the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum for its final two regular-season meets, hosting San Jose State on Friday, March 12 and Sacramento State on Friday, March 19. Those are both WAC meets and will be USU's final preparations for the WAC Championships on March 27 at Fullerton, Calif.
Admission to Utah State gymnastics home meets is $5 for adults and $1 for youth. Fans can buy a women's sports pass for $75 which will gain admittance to all USU women's basketball, volleyball and gymnastics action.
