LOGAN, Utah - Utah State distance runner Jason Holt has been named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, May 15, an award that is voted on by a state-wide media panel.

It is the first time this year and second time in his career that Holt has been named USU's Student-Athlete of the Week.

Holt, a senior from Fort Collins, Colo., (Fort Collins HS) won the individual championship in the 800m with a personal best time of 1:48.78, as well as being a member of the third-place 4x400m relay team at the 2011 WAC Outdoor Championships last weekend in Honolulu. Holt, who was named the Co-Outstanding Track Performer of the meet, helped USU win its third-straight outdoor WAC Championship and its fourth in the last five years.

Utah State returns to action next weekend as select members of its men and women's teams will travel to Eugene, Ore., to compete in the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds beginning on Thursday, May 26.

Nominees from other sports included:
SOFTBALL - Freshman second baseman Kassandra Uchida (Burbank, Calif.) was the top hitter at the WAC Tournament for fifth-seeded Utah State as it lost to fourth-seeded Hawai'i (6-1) and sixth-seeded Louisiana Tech (4-1). Against UH, the utility player went 2-for-2 with her first collegiate triple and one run scored. Against LTU, she was 1-for-3 as USU was eliminated from the tournament. For the tournament, Uchida hit .600 (3-for-5) with a .667 on base percentage and did not commit an error.

WOMEN'S TRACK - Freshman Chari Hawkins (Rexburg, Idaho) was named the WAC Freshman of the Year after winning the heptathlon with 5,124 points at the 2011 WAC Outdoor Championships in Honolulu last weekend. Hawkins is the first Utah State freshman woman to win an individual WAC title, along with being the fifth Aggie woman ever to win the conference heptathlon title and the first since 2002. Hawkins also received second-team all-WAC honors after finishing fifth in both the 100m hurdles (14.11) and the high jump (1.72m - 5-07.25).
