Oct. 15, 2014 LOGAN, Utah- Utah State women's volleyball will return to Kirby Court at the Wayne Estes Center on Thursday night when the Aggies host the Fresno State Bulldogs at 7 p.m. The evening will be the annual Dig for the Cure match, as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and fans who wear pink will be given free admission to the contest.
USU will enter the match coming off a 3-1 loss at Boise State on Tuesday night. The Aggies took the first set, but fell in the final three despite a career-high 18 kills from senior middle Kaitlyn VanHoff. The loss dropped Utah State's record to 8-9 overall and 4-3 in the Mountain West.
Fresno State is currently 6-14 on the year and 1-5 in Mountain West contests. The Bulldogs are currently enduring a rough patch where the team has only won two matches in their last 11 outings. The Bulldogs will have the added benefit of rest against the Aggies, having not played a match since Oct. 11 at Colorado State.
FS is led by junior outside hitter Zana Bowens with 229 kills, averaging 3.14 per set. Bowens is also tops for the Bulldogs behind the service line and leads the Mountain West with 0.40 aces per set. Fresno runs a two-set system with Jelena Jovanovic and Brooke Legaux sharing the load with 380 and 347 assists this season, respectively. Sophomore libero Maggie Eppright is eighth in the MW this year with 3.55 digs per set.
Lauren Netherby-Sewell is in her seventh season as head coach of Fresno State and has compiled an overall record of 83-96 over that span.
