Oct. 19, 2014 Final Stats ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Utah State women's tennis senior
McKenzie Davis claimed the title at the ITA Mountain Region Championships on Sunday, after a three-set thriller against an in-state opponent.
In the championship finals, Davis topped in-state rival Utah's Tereza Beckerova in a three-set battle, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6, to claim the title. Beckerova was the No. 1 seed in the tournament and the No. 76-ranked player in the country.
"This was truly a special moment in the history of Utah State tennis," said USU head coach Sean McInerney. "McKenzie has worked so hard over the years and it all came together this week. I couldn't be prouder of the way she played and the class she conducted herself with."
Davis is the first Aggie to claim the ITA Mountain Region Championship, and will be the first USU player to compete at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, held November 6-9 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, NY.
