Oct. 8, 2015 LOGAN, Utah -Utah State's men's and women's cross country teams continue their seasons at home by hosting the USU Invitational on Friday, Oct. 9.
This marks the first time the Aggies have hosted two home meets in a season since 2007. Utah State will welcome runners from Boise State, BYU and Weber State.
The event will take place on the Steve and Dona Reeder Cross Country Course, which is located at 1498 N. 800 East. The men will run at 2 p.m., while the women's race gets underway at 2:30 p.m.
"Having two home meets here helps us because this course has big designs for the future," said associate head coach Michael Spence. "We are going to host a couple of region meets here in the future, and it is good to run the course against region opponents to see where we stand."
Freshman Shannon Maloney is looking forward to racing on a familiar course."Running at home is nice," Maloney said. "It's good to be on your home turf and at our first home meet I was able to try a different running style against tough competition."
Sophomore Dillon Maggard plans on using the home meet to get prepared for next week's pre-nationals competition.
"Overall, the season has been really good. We train on our course often and we feel right at home," Maggard said. "I feel really confident. Our one through five runners run really close together and I think we're going to surprise some people this year."
The MW Championships will be hosted by Nevada on Friday, Oct. 30, at Montrêux Golf Course in Reno, Nev. The Aggie men finished fifth with 152 points at last year's Championships, while the women captured seventh with 180 points.
The NCAA Mountain Region Championships will be held in Albuquerque, N.M., on Nov. 13 - eight days before the NCAA Championships in Louisville on Nov. 21.
