FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Utah State women's tennis split its Saturday doubleheader with a 4-3 loss against Northern Arizona and a 5-1 win over Portland State. With the split, the Aggies moved to 12-10 on the season.

"It was an extremely tough loss this morning to a good Northern Arizona team," said USU head coach Sean McInerney. "I was really proud that we bounced back against a scrappy Portland State team that has had a good season. It was a tough, long day of tennis, and we showed a lot of character winning the second match."

The match started in doubles where sophomore Nini Guensler and Lexi Turley defeated Sarah Maria Spruch and Livia Hollosy, 6-1, at the third position. Then, the Lumberjacks tied the doubles point when Hailey Rochin and Emelia Box defeated junior Kallie Sperry and freshman Meghan Lyall, 6-2, at the second position. Senior McKenzie Davis and freshman Maggie O'Meara clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win at the first position against Johanna Vang and Marta Lewandowska.

In singles, Rochin defeated Guensler, 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 2 spot, while Lyall topped Sara Brown in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, at the No. 6 spot. NAU's Jordan Denesik tied the match at 2-2 when she defeated Sperry, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 4 spot. Lewandoska put NAU ahead with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 win against freshman Sabrina Demerath at the No. 5 spot. However, Davis tied the match with a 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 win against Vang at the No. 1 spot. With the team score tied at 3-all, the Lumberjacks clinched the victory as Box defeated Turley in a thrilling, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 match at the No. 3 spot.

After a short break, the Aggies returned to the courts to face Portland State. In doubles, Demerath and Lyall partnered together for a 6-2 win against Alexa McDonald and Ayaka Terakawa at the third position. Then, Turley and Guensler defeated Tracy Dong and Kelsey Frey, 6-3, at the second position. The final doubles match was left unfinished, as USU had already clinched the point.

In singles, Davis made short work of Dane Vorster, beating her 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 1 spot. Then, Dong defeated O'Meara, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 3 spot. USU took the next three matches as Guensler defeated Siena Peri, 6-4, 6-0, at the No. 2 spot, Lyall topped McDonald, 6-2, 6-3, at the No. 5 spot and junior Amber Stuhlmann defeated Terakawa, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 6 spot, making the final score 5-1.
