Utah State's men's golf team continues its 2017 spring season this week at the Wyoming-hosted Cowboy Classic on Monday and Tuesday, April 10-11.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament will be held at the Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz. The course will play at a par-72 over 7,334 yards.
This year's 21-team field includes: Air Force, Arizona State, CS Northridge, Colorado, Colorado State, Denver, Gonzaga, Houston Baptist, Idaho, Kansas, Long Beach State, Old Dominion, Sacramento State, Southern Utah, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, Utah State, Weber State, Wichita State, William & Mary and host Wyoming.
Scheduled to compete for the Aggies will be seniors Tanner Jenson and Eli Rogers, junior Braxton Miller, and freshmen Hayden Eckert and Chase Lansford.
During its last competition, Utah State tied for seventh out of 12 teams with a seven-under 857 (293-276-288) at the South Dakota State-hosted Jackrabbit Invitational, held in Las Vegas, Nev. Jenson was USU's top individual finisher as he tied for eighth at 8-under 208 (73-69-66). Eckert tied for 25th place at 1-under 215 (72-71-72), Miller tied for 27th at even par 216 (73-68-75), Rogers tied for 33rd at 2-over 218 (75-68-75) and Lansford finished in 57th place at 11-over 227 (75-73-79).
During its first competition of the spring season, Utah State had its best showing of the year as it placed second out of 12 teams at the Southern Utah-hosted Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational with a seven-under 569 (285-284).
On the season, Jenson leads Utah State with a stroke average of 72.09 over 22 rounds, while Eckert has a stroke average of 73.26 over 19 rounds. Miller has a stroke average of 73.36 over 22 rounds, while Rogers and Lansford have stroke averages of 73.41 and 73.68 over 22 rounds, respectively.
