Utah State Women's Tennis Wins, 6-1, Against Oakland

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Utah State women's tennis (4-3) wrapped up its four-match slate in Michigan this weekend with a 6-1 victory over Oakland (0-2) on Sunday morning in East Lansing, Mich.

"I was proud of our effort this weekend," head coach Sean McInerney said. "Playing four matches in three days is tough, and we had our ups and downs. We played exceptionally hard each day and did many good things. We will continue to work on our consistency and the game style we are trying to do."

Utah State captured a clean sweep in doubles as freshman Sasha Pisareva and senior Maggie O'Meara won, 6-4, at the No. 1 spot against juniors Dasha Artamonova and Sofia Borcuti. Redshirt freshman Alexandra Taylor and Sabrina Demerath dropped just one game in their 6-1 victory over freshman Darya Maltseva and sophomore Alexandra Whall at the No. 2 spot. At the No. 3 spot, junior Jenna Kane and sophomore Sophia Haleas won, 6-4, over sophomores Samantha Galloway and Amanda Nilsson.

Pisareva finished the weekend going 4-0 at the No. 1 spot in singles with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Artamonova. Sophomore Rhoda Tanui won at the No. 2 spot, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2, against Whall. After losing the first set, 4-6, sophomore Hannah Jones came back to win, 6-3, 6-0, at the No. 3 spot against sophomore Allison Motea. Lucy Octave also went to three sets at the No. 4 set, winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 against Maltseva. Demerath won, 6-4, 6-2, against Borcuti at the No. 5 spot. Sophomore Marija Milic recorded the Golden Grizzlies' only point with a 6-4, 7-5 win at the No. 6 spot against Taylor.

Utah State next heads to Denver, Colo., to take on Denver on Friday at 7 p.m.
