Utah State Women's Tennis Loses, 7-0, at Denver

DENVER, Colo. - Utah State women's tennis (4-4) lost, 7-0, to Denver (3-2) in Colorado on Friday night.

"Denver is an extremely good team," head coach Sean McInerney said. "They play smart and simply played the big points better today. I was proud of our effort. We are getting better up and down the lineup, so I am excited about that."

In doubles, sophomore Rhoda Tanui and Hannah Jones lost, 0-6, at the No. 1 spot to senior Julia O'Loughlin and junior Bianca Mok, who are the No. 57 ranked doubles tandem in the nation. Senior Maggie O'Meara and freshman Sasha Pisareva won, 6-3, at the No. 2 spot against freshmen Hada Chang and Anna Riedmiller. The doubles point came down to the No. 3 spot, where senior Sabrina Demerath and redshirt freshman Alexandra Taylor went into a tiebreaker with freshman Camille Verden-Anderson and redshirt junior Arisha Ladhani, losing 6-7 (2).

In singles, Tanui lost to No. 123 Mok at the No. 2 spot, 4-6, 0-6. O'Meara then lost at the No. 5 spot to senior Gracia Mboko, 2-6, 2-6. Ladhani clinched the win for the Pioneers at the No. 3 spot with a 7-5, 6-2 win over sophomore Lucy Octave. The teams played out the remaining matches, with Jones losing at the No. 4 spot, 4-6, 3-6, against Chang. Demerath lost, 5-7, 2-6, at the No. 6 spot against Verden-Anderson. Pisareva lost her first set at the No. 1 spot against No. 47 O'Loughlin, 4-6, but came back to win the second, 6-4. The match was decided in a tiebreaker where Pisareva lost, 9-11.

USU next looks to take on Utah in Salt Lake City on Thursday, Feb. 15, at 6 p.m.
