LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Utah State women's tennis finished Day 1 undefeated in doubles at the ITA Regional Championships on Wednesday
In the first flight of singles, senior
Hannah Jones defeated Southern Utah's Jessica Stefan, 6-3, 6-3. Freshman
Zara Ryan came up short to Nevada's Anastasia Luneva, 3-6. 2-6. Senior
Lucy Octave defeated Montana's Maria Goheen, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3. Freshman
Carolina Millan defeated Southern Utah's Daniela Cozzi, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6. Sophomore
Gabrielle Dekkers fell short to Montana's Julia Ronney, 5-7, 4-6.
In the second flight of singles, freshman
Renata Lombera defeated UTEP's Thassane Abrahim, 6-4, 6-3. Sophomore
Annaliese County defeated Northern Colorado's Madison Wolfe, 6-4, 6-3.
"It was a really good day for us at regionals," head coach
Sean McInerney said. "To get 10 wins as a team shows our depth and consistency with our choices during the matches."
In doubles action, sophomore
Sidnee Lavatai and Jones defeated Southern Utah's Paula Tascon and Alexandra Ngo, 8-4. Dekkers and Ryan defeated Brigham Young's Anastasia Abramyan and Helen Jiao, 8-7. Freshmen duo
Renata Lombera and
Carolina Millan added another win for the Aggies as they beat Nevada's Anastaysha Gorbacheva and Carla Del Barrio, 8-5. Sophomore
Annaliese County and Octave came out on top against Idaho's Angela Walker and Alexandra Arkhipov, 8-7.
"I was especially impressed with going 4-0 in doubles with some very impressive wins," McInerney said. "We are excited to see if we can continue our strong play tomorrow!"
The Aggies will return tomorrow, looking to continue their strong play and advance in the tournament play.
