LOGAN, Utah – Utah State's cross country teams are set to wrap up the regular season portion of their schedules as they travel to Salt Lake City to compete in the Utah-hosted Utah Invitational on Friday, Oct. 25.
Utah State will be joined by four other programs from the Beehive State, including the host Utes, Utah Valley, Southern Utah and Weber State. Utah's women's team ranks No. 16 nationally, while Southern Utah's men's program is No. 19.
"This meet will be great for our kids," said third-year USU head coach
Artie Gulden. "The entire team seems energized and ready to go as we get set to attack the latter portion of the season. They will get to race against a few other teams from Utah, which is exciting for them. Our goal will be to win the team competition for both the men and women."
Friday's meet will be held at Sunnyside Park in Salt Lake City, near Utah's campus. The women's 5-kilometer race will begin at 1 p.m., while the men's 6-kilometer race will get underway at 1:45 p.m.
In its last competition, the No. 22 Utah State men's team finished 14th in a loaded field at the Wisconsin-hosted Nuttycombe Invitational on Oct. 18, earning 402 points to finish ahead of six nationally ranked programs. For the second time this season, the Aggies were led by senior
Luke Beattie, who finished 49th overall with a time of 24:16.1.
On the women's side, the Aggies placed 29th at the Nuttycombe Invitational with 695 points. USU was led by the freshman duo of
Bailey Brinkerhoff (21:22.8) and
Mimi Miyazawa (21:57.1), who finished the 5-kilometer run 114
th and 115
th, respectively.
