Final Results
ERIE, Colo. – Utah State's golf team finished in a sixth-place tie with a 16-under-par 848 (281-279-288) at the Colorado-hosted Mark Simpson Invitational held Monday and Tuesday at the par-72, 7,676-yard Colorado National Golf Club.
Colorado won the 12-team field tournament championship with a 35-under 829 (276-280-273), while Grand Canyon's Michael Salazar won medalist honors at 12-under 204 (66-68-70) after birding the first playoff hole.
For Utah State, it is its best 54-hole score since shooting a 16-under 848 (291-276-281) at the Cal State Northridge-hosted Bill Cullum Invitational in the fall of 2017.
Junior
Colten Cordingley was Utah State's top finisher as he tied for eighth with an 8-under-par 208 (67-69-72), which is his best-ever 54-hole score and tied for his best-ever tournament finish. In fact, it is the best 54-hole score by an Aggie since Tanner Jenson also shot 8-under-par at the South Dakota State-hosted Jackrabbit Invitational held in Las Vegas, Nev., in the spring of 2017.
Overall, it was Cordingley's second-career top-10 placing and his fifth-career finish under par.
Cordingley's opening day rounds of 67 and 69 were his first rounds in the 60s this fall and the third and fourth of his career. He now has 10 career rounds under par, including his second this fall. Furthermore, his 5-under 67 during his first 18 holes is tied for his best-ever collegiate round.
Senior
Chase Lansford also finished in the top-20 for Utah State, as he tied for 17th with a 5-under 211 (70-70-71), which is his best-ever 54-hole score. It is also his seventh-career under-par finish and ninth-career top-20 placing. For Lansford, he now has four rounds under par this fall and 21 in his career.
Junior
Andy Hess finished tied for 24th at 2-under 214 (72-67-75), marking his third-career under-par finish. For Hess, his second round 5-under 67 is tied for his best-ever round. It is also the second time this fall and fifth time in his career he has carded a round in the 60s, and the fourth time this fall and 15th time in his career he has had an under-par round.
Sophomore
Cameron Tucker notched his first-career under-par finish as he tied for 26th at 1-under 215 (72-73-70) for his best-ever 54-hole score. In fact, his final round of 2-under 70 is his third-ever round under par.
Rounding out Utah State's competitors was freshman
Gabe Hunter, who placed 65th at 12-over 228 (73-78-77).
Utah State will return to action on Monday, Oct. 14, when it competes in the Cal State Northridge-hosted Bill Cullum Invitational.
