LOGAN, Utah – Utah State senior
Luke Beattie has been named the Mountain West Men's Cross Country Peak Athlete of the Week for action through Oct. 8, as announced by the league offices Tuesday afternoon.
Overall, it is the first time this season and the first time in his career that Beattie has earned MW Athlete of the Week honors.
The native of Woodstock, Ill., finished first among Aggie men competitors in the 8-kilometer run, and fifth overall in a field of 372 runners, with a time of 23:33.9, at the Lehigh-hosted Paul Short Run, held last weekend at the Goodman Cross Country Course in Bethlehem, Pa. Beattie led the USU men to their third-consecutive team title at the Paul Short Run with 49 points, finishing nearly 100 points ahead of the second-place team, Penn (144 points).
Utah State's men's and women's cross country teams continue their 2019 season on Friday, Oct. 11, as the Aggies host the Steve T. Reeder Memorial. The women's 5-kilometer run will begin at 3 p.m., while the men's 7-kilometer run will get underway at 3:45 p.m., at the Steve and Dona Reeder Cross Country Course.
