LOGAN, Utah – Utah State women's tennis (1-3, 0-0 MW) will compete in two matches in Flagstaff, Ariz., this weekend, beginning with New Mexico State (1-1) on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 10 a.m. (MT) followed by Northern Arizona (1-3) on Sunday, Feb. 10, at 10 a.m. (MT) at the Aquatic & Tennis Complex.
Utah State is led by junior Lucy Octave who is 3-0 in singles. Freshman Sidnee Lavatai is 2-1 at the No. 6 spot, while junior Rhoda Tanui is 1-2, freshman Annaliese County is 1-3, senior Hannah Jones is 0-2 and sophomore Alexandra Taylor and freshman Gabrielle Dekkers are 0-4 in singles play. In doubles, Jones and Taylor are 2-0 at the No. 1 spot, County and Octave are 2-1 at the No. 2 spot and Dekkers and Lavatai are 1-1 at the No. 3 spot. Utah State has won the doubles point in each of its last three matches.
USU will be looking for their first win against New Mexico State as they are 0-12 against the Aggies from Las Cruces. This will be the first meeting between the two squads since April, 2013. In singles, NMSU seniors Lindsay Harlas and Yadira Rubio, sophomores Harsha Challa and Gavi Kalaga, as well as freshman Chloe Gavino have recorded one singles wins. In doubles, the No. 1-3 spot have each recorded a win.
The Aggies and Lumberjacks have met 14 times, with NAU leading the series, 12-2. Northern Arizona began the season with a 4-3 win against UC Davis, but have lost three-straight matches. Junior Chiara Tomasetti is 3-0, freshman Adrianna Sosnowska is 2-1, sophomore Madi Moore is 1-1, freshman Emilie Haakansson is 1-3, senior Eirene Granville is 0-2, and sophomore Ellie Millard is 0-4. In doubles, Sosnowska and Tomasetti are 2-2, Granville and Moore are 1-0 and Haakansson and Millard Baylis and Thielman are 1-2.
