LOGAN, Utah – Utah State's women's tennis team will conclude its season-opening five-match homestand by hosting Northern Arizona on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m., at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club.

The Aggies (3-1) come into the match fresh off their first loss of the season, 5-2 against in-state rival BYU on Friday.

"We have another great opportunity against NAU on Sunday, and there is no better time to play another good team than after a loss," said Utah State head coach Sean McInerney.

A live video feed of each court will be provided and live results will be available online and on the team's social media pages. Links to those options are available on the tennis schedule at utahstateaggies.com and on the team's social media pages.

The Lumberjacks come into the match fresh off their own loss to the Cougars. The two teams squared off Saturday in Provo with BYU rallying for the 4-3 win. NAU (0-3) claimed the doubles point and won at the top two singles courts, but fell short of its first victory of the spring.

Chiara Tomasetti leads NAU in singles play as she is 3-0 on the year playing in the No. 1 spot. The 5-foot-7 senior from Roesrath, Germany, is a perfect 2-0 in doubles with both of those wins coming at the No. 2 spot with teammate Ellie Millard.

Tomasetti was the first player to get on the scoreboard in singles play against BYU with a 6-2, 6-4 victory on court one over Kate Cusick Truman. Tomasetti's third win of the dual season gave the 'Jacks a 2-0 lead in the match before the Cougars stormed back.

"Our ball tolerance and movement has to get better," said McInerney, when asked what his team has to do Sunday against NAU. "We were very inconsistent with our shot selection, movement and ability to maintain the rally against BYU. I am hoping that the second time we play a really good team this year that we will catch up to the ball a little bit and play our style of tennis. We are a very good team, so I haven't lost any confidence in this team. I feel like this was a great opportunity to take a bunch of young players and learn."

Sophomore Annaliese County leads USU in singles play as she is a perfect 4-0, while senior Lucy Octave is 3-0 at the No. 1 spot. Those two were the lone Aggies to record singles victories against BYU.

"We need to bring more energy on Sunday and compete better in the singles matches, and hopefully, we can turn it around, because we had been playing well up until the BYU match," Octave said.
In doubles play, County and freshman Zara Ryan are 2-0 on the season.
