LOGAN, Utah – Utah State senior women's tennis player Hannah Jones was named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Feb. 2, it was announced Monday. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
It is the third time in his career that Brown has been named USU's student-athlete of the week. With their sponsorship of the Student-Athlete of the Week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.
Jones led Utah State to a season-opening 7-0 home win against Southern Utah last weekend. In singles play, she clinched the match for USU with a straight-sets victory (7-5, 6-4) at the No. 4 position.

MEN'S BASKETBALL – Senior guard Sam Merrill (Bountiful, Utah) helped Utah State to a 1-1 Mountain West road record last week with a 68-45 road win at Wyoming and an 80-68 road loss at No. 4 San Diego State. Against the Cowboys, Merrill scored a game-high-tying 14 points and added two rebounds and two assists, while shooting 50.0 percent (4-of-8) from the floor, 40.0 percent (2-of-5) from behind the 3-point line and 100.0 percent (4-of-4) at the free throw line. Against the Aztecs, Merrill recorded his first double-double of the season and third of his career with a team-high 16 points and a career-high-tying 12 assists. Merrill also added five rebounds against the Aztecs as he finished the game shooting 41.7 percent (5-of-12) from the floor, 50.0 percent (4-of-8) from behind the 3-point line and 100.0 percent (2-of-2) at the free throw line. For the week, Merrill averaged 15.0 points, 7.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 45.0 percent (9-of-20) from the floor, 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from behind the 3-point line and 100.0 percent (6-of-6) at the free throw line.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL – Senior forward Marlene Aniambossou (Cotonou, Benin) scored in double figures in back-to-back games last week as Utah State lost Mountain West home games to Wyoming (65-54) and San Diego State (59-51). Against the Cowgirls, Aniambossou had 10 points and two rebounds. Against the Aztecs, she had 15 points and five rebounds. For the week, Aniambossou averaged 12.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 50.0 percent (10-of-20) from the field and 100.0 percent (5-of-5) at the free throw line.
GYMNASTICS – Junior Autumn DeHarde (Sussex, Wis.) tied for first on beam with a 9.875 last weekend in Utah State's 195.875-195.175 Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference loss at Southern Utah. It was DeHarde's eighth career title on beam, which is tied for third all-time in school history. DeHarde helped the Aggies finish with a team score of 49.125 on beam, which is tied for 12th all-time in school history. DeHarde also tied for third on floor (9.850) and placed 11th on vault (9.550).
MEN'S TENNIS – Senior Sergiu Bucur (Constanta, Romania) posted a straight-sets win (6-4, 6-1) at the No. 2 position in Utah State's 4-1 loss at Denver last weekend.
MEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD – Senior jumper Kyle Brost (Chandler, Ariz.) placed second in the triple jump last weekend with a season-best mark of 14.85 meters (48-8.75) at the Washington Invitational.
WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD – Sophomore jumper Audrey Garrett (Roosevelt, Utah) placed second in the high jump last weekend with a mark of 1.70 meters (5-7.00) at the Washington Invitational.
