LOGAN, Utah – Utah State's football team announced its 2019 team awards on Thursday. Eleven total awards were presented to 12 different Aggies.
For the second-consecutive season, quarterback
Jordan Love was awarded the team MVP after earning honorable mention all-Mountain West honors. He passed for 3,402 yards and 20 touchdowns as he was 293-of-473 (.619) on the season, setting single-season school records in both completions and attempts, while his passing yards were the second-most.
The 6-foot-4, 225-pound native of Bakersfield, Calif., was selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers with the 26th overall pick.
Safety
Troy Lefeged Jr. was tabbed the Defensive MVP following his first full season with the Aggies. The native of Montgomery Village, Md., started all 13 games and led Utah State with 104 tackles, to go along with three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and four pass breakups.
Running back
Gerold Bright and wide receiver
Siaosi Mariner shared Offensive MVP honors.
Bright garnered honorable mention all-MW honors as he started 11 of the 13 games he played in. He led Utah State in rushing with 921 yards and nine touchdowns on 182 carries, to go along with 35 receptions for 230 yards and one touchdown.
Mariner earned second-team all-Mountain West honors as he started all 13 games and finished the season leading the team in every receiving category as he caught 63 passes for 987 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Special Teams MVP honors went to placekicker
Dominik Eberle after he was named an honorable mention All-American by ProFootballFocus (PFF) and garnered first-team all-MW honors. The native of Nuremberg, Germany, ranked first in the conference and 29th in the nation in scoring (8.3 ppg), second in the MW and 12th in the nation in field goal percentage (.875) as he was 21-of-24, third in the MW and 18th in the nation in field goals made per game (1.62), and eighth in the MW in points responsible for per game (8.3).
Defensive end
Jacoby Wildman and offensive lineman
Andy Koch earned the Beyond Football Award and Iron Aggie Award, respectively, while safety
Shaq Bond was tabbed the team's Comeback Player of the Year.
Bond returned from a season-ending knee injury in 2018 and earned honorable mention all-MW honors in 2019 as he started in all 13 games. He recorded 83 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss, and led the Aggies with three interceptions, to go along with five pass breakups.
Linebacker
David Woodward garnered the Impact Player Award on defense as he earned first-team all-MW honors despite playing in just seven games during the season due to injury. He finished with 93 total tackles in 2019, which ranked second on the team.
Tight end
Caleb Repp earned the Impact Player Award on offense after earning honorable mention all-MW honors as he appeared in 12 games, making six starts. He finished the season with 36 receptions for 455 yards and four touchdowns as he tied for second on the team in touchdown catches, and was fourth on the team in both receptions and receiving yards.
Scout team Offensive MVP honors went to quarterback
Josh Calvin, while safety
Patrick Maddox earned Scout team Defensive MVP accolades.
Utah State went 7-6 overall in 2019, including a 6-2 mark in the MW to finish third in the Mountain Division. It was just the 26th time in school history that USU has won at least seven games, while its six league wins are tied for the sixth-most in school history. USU also played in its 14th bowl game in school history in 2019, including its eighth in the past nine seasons.
