LOGAN, Utah – Utah State head women's tennis coach Sean McInerney has announced the addition of Veronika Golanova to the staff as an assistant coach.
"I am thankful for the opportunity to join the Utah State women's tennis team. I am looking forward to seeing the girls work hard and grow, both on and off the court," Golanova said. "This is such an amazing opportunity for me to apply my previous competitive experience in Division I, give my all to the program, and learn from such an experienced coach as Sean McInerney."
Golanova comes to USU after spending the 2019-20 season as a volunteer assistant coach at her alma mater, Illinois State. The Redbirds posted a 6-7 record in the season shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic, ending the year with a 4-1 win over Southeastern Louisiana. She also spent the academic year doing graduate assistantships in teaching and professional practice.
As a player at ISU, Golanova was a two-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, earning the honor in 2018 and 2019. She also earned MVC all-conference honors at the No. 1 singles position both of those years, and was on the all-MVC doubles team in 2016. Golanova ended her career with a 52-36 singles record, while going 67-29 in doubles action.
Golanova played her freshman season at Georgia State, where she posted a 6-3 record at No. 6 singles play that spring. A native of Roznov Pod Radhostem, Czech Republic, she won the national championship for 14-16-year-olds in 2008 and placed third in the championship for 16-18-year-olds in 2011.
Golanova graduated from Illinois State with a bachelor's degree in exercise science in 2018 and a master's in sport psychology in 2020.
