Neemias Queta Named America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week

LOGAN, Utah - For the third consecutive week, Utah State junior center Neemias Queta has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the week for the period ending on Sunday, Jan. 10. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.

With their sponsorship of the Student-Athlete of the Week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.

Queta (Barreiro, Portugal) anchored a Utah State defense that held New Mexico to season-low points in the Aggies' 77-45 and 82-46 Mountain West road wins against the Lobos last week. In the first game, Queta led the Aggies with a game-high 18 points and added six rebounds, five blocks, one assist and one steal, while shooting 90.0 percent (9-of-10) from the floor. 

In the second game, Queta recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 13 rebounds, as he shot 50.0 percent (5-of-10) and added two steals and one assist. Queta also recorded three blocks to break the all-time school record, increasing his career total to 156 and passing Gilbert Pete (1986-89) who finished his career with 155. For the week, Queta averaged 14.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4.0 blocks, 1.5 steals and 1.0 assists per game, while shooting 70.0 percent (14-of-20) from the floor.

Utah State (9-3, 6-0 MW) continues Mountain West play this week with a pair of home games against San Diego State (10-2, 3-1 MW) on Thursday, Jan. 14, and Saturday, Jan. 16. Thursday's game will be televised on CBS Sports Network  (Xfinity Ch. 269/753HD), DISH Ch. 158, DirecTV Ch. 221) and begin at 7 p.m., while Saturday's game will be televised on CBS and begin at 11:30 a.m. USU is 6-13 all-time against the Aztecs, including a 2-4 home record.

GYMNASTICS –
Freshman Eve Jackson (Los Angeles, Calif.) recorded Utah State's best individual finish at the second annual Rio Tinto Best of Utah Gymnastics Meet as she had a 9.850 on bars to tie for second. She also competed on floor at the event, helping the Aggies finish the night with a team score of 194.350 to place third out of the four teams. Overall, USU finished third with a team score of 194.350 and ahead of No. 23 Southern Utah (194.325). Fourth-ranked Utah won the meet with a team score of 196.900 and No. 17 BYU placed second with a team score of 195.700.
