Box Score LOGAN, Utah – Utah State women's tennis opened its 2021 season in the win column Friday, defeating Dixie State, 7-0.

Doubles matches finished in order, with USU earning the doubles point from wins in the Nos. 1 and 2 positions. Both wins were decided by a score of 6-2, with sophomore Carolina Millan and junior Sidnee Lavatai defeating Ya-Chi Hsu and Rachel Mellor in the No. 1 spot, and sophomore Zara Ryan and freshman Lisa Küng topping Emma Templeman and Juliana Honczaruk at No. 2.

The Aggies made quick work of the Trailblazers in singles play, where all six matches were won in straight sets. Ryan picked up the first win, defeating Hsu, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 2 position. In the No. 1 spot, Millan topped Kyra Harames, 6-0, 6-1. Playing in the No. 4 position, Lavatai clinched the match, defeating Sabrina Longson, 6-1, 6-2.

Junior Annaliese County defeated Emma Templeman, 6-4, 6-3, at the No. 3 spot, followed by freshman Naya Tillitt sweeping Mellor, 6-2, 6-3. Redshirt freshman Lillian Okamoto wrapped things up with a win over Juliana Honczaruk (6-1, 7-5).

Utah State is back in action on Sunday, Jan. 31, when it hosts Idaho State in an 1 p.m. match at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club.
