Utah State Cross Country Teams Both Remain Ranked In Top 10 of Regional Rankings

Both Aggie squads are at No. 6

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men's and women's cross country team both stayed put at No. 6 in Week 5 of the NCAA DI Cross Country regional rankings, which were released Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
 
There were a few changes to the order of the top-5 men's teams in the Mountain Region. Northern Arizona and Colorado remained No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, followed by No. 3 BYU. Air Force soared four spots into the No. 4 spot with Colorado State right behind at No. 5.
 
There were several changes to the order of the top-5 women's teams in the Mountain Region. New Mexico and Colorado each climbed one spot and now sit at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. The move dropped BYU to No. 3, while No. 4 and No. 5 Colorado State held steady.
 
The Lobos won the team title at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational last weekend, taking down the Cougars, who finished third.
 
Utah State also competed at the Nuttycombe Invitational, which was held on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in Verona, Wisconsin.
 
Behind a 33rd-place finish in the 6K championship race from senior Katie Haviland, the Aggie women placed 13th with 421 points. In the process, Utah State defeated seven ranked opponents in No. 7 Washington, No. 9 Stanford, No. 18 Portland, No. 20 Villanova, No. 26 Connecticut, No. 28 Furman and No. 30 Oregon State.
 
On the men's side, No. 29 Utah State finished 11th out of 32 teams with 322 points. Camren Todd led the way for the Aggies as he finished ninth in the 8K championship race with a time of 23:36.2.
 
With their 11th-place finish, the Aggie men placed ahead of six teams ranked higher than them in the latest national poll. USU defeated No. 13 Washington, No. 14 Iona, No. 16 Butler, No. 21 Southern Utah, No. 26 Portland and No. 27 Syracuse.
 
Select runners for Utah State will compete at the Utah Open on Thursday, Oct. 21, at Sunnyside Park in Salt Lake City. The Mountain West Championships will be held at the UNM North Golf Course on Friday, Oct. 29, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
