LOGAN, Utah – Utah State director of track & field and cross country/head track & field coach
Matt Ingebritsen announced the Aggies' 2022 indoor schedule on Tuesday.
The schedule includes seven regular-season meets before heading to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Birmingham, Alabama, for the Mountain West and NCAA Championships, respectively.
"We are excited to announce our 2022 indoor track & field schedule," Ingebritsen said. "After having to miss the indoor season last year due to COVID, the coaches and athletes are ready to get back to the action. The indoor season is important for us, not only for the ability to shine on the indoor stage, but for helping us get ready for the outdoor season."
The indoor season ramps up with four trips in January, starting with a trek down I-15 for the BYU Invitational in Provo, Utah, on Jan. 13-15. USU will then compete out of state for its next three meets, including the Mark Colligan Memorial Invitational in Lincoln, Nebraska (Jan. 22).
Utah State will divide and conquer by traveling to two separate meets the following weekend with trips to Seattle, Washington, for the UW Invitational (Jan. 28-29), and Pocatello, Idaho, for the Stacy Dragila Invitational (Jan. 29).
The Aggies will host the Speed and Power Meet on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 4-5, at the George Nelson Fieldhouse.
"This is a particularly special schedule as we are able to bring back our home meet," Ingebritsen said. "We have not had a home meet in at least 10 years. This will be an opportunity for the athletes to compete at their own facility and not have to travel, which is a big advantage during a long season. We are excited to get the season kicked off in January."
Utah State will close the regular season by traveling to two separate meets on Feb. 11-12, with trips to Albuquerque, New Mexico (Don Kirby Elite Invitational), and Pocatello (Mountain State Games).
The last time the Aggies were at home during the indoor season was on Jan. 17, 2009, when they hosted the USU Wilson Motor Invitational. Sonia Grabowska's school and facility record highlighted a great outing by the Aggies that day as the native of Warsaw, Poland, cleared the bar at 4.20 meters (13-9.50), smashing the previous school and Nelson Fieldhouse record of 3.97 meters (13-0.25) by Kathryn Duhadway in 2006.
The Aggies being the postseason with another trip to Albuquerque for the MW Championships on Feb. 24-26. The NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships will take place in Birmingham on March 11-12.
