LOGAN, Utah – Utah State head gymnastics coach Amy Smith announced the Aggies' 2022 schedule on Tuesday, a slate that features five home meets for the first time since the 2017 campaign.

Utah State will open the season at the third-annual Rio Tinto Best of Utah NCAA Gymnastics Meet on Friday, Jan. 7, at 7 p.m., at the Maverik Center in West Valley City. The podium event will also feature in-state rivals BYU, Southern Utah and Utah.

The Aggies open the home portion of their schedule the following weekend on Friday, Jan. 14, with a regional dual meet against Air Force. USU remains at home the following weekend when it welcomes Boise State to the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum for a Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference dual. Both meets begin at 7 p.m.

After hosting Boise State, Utah State will head south down I-15 for an MRGC dual meet against BYU on Friday, Jan. 28, in Provo, at 7 p.m.

Utah State opens the month of February at home with a tri-meet against MRGC-rival Southern Utah and Ball State on Friday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m. The Aggies then travel to Cedar City the following weekend for a dual meet with the Flippin' Birds on Friday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m.

USU remains on the road the next weekend, as well, when the Aggies head to the Gem State to take on Boise State on Friday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m.

Utah State closes out the home portion of its schedule with a double-meet weekend beginning on Friday, Feb. 25, against BYU and Towson, at 7 p.m. The Aggies will also entertain the Tigers on Sunday, Feb. 27, at 3 p.m.

Utah State heads back out on the road on Sunday, March 6, at 3 p.m., for a tri-meet at Washington. Joining the Aggies and Huskies in Seattle will be Stanford. The following Friday, USU will be in the North Star State for a quad meet against host Minnesota, Temple and Long Island.

Boise State hosts the MRGC Championships on Saturday, March 18, welcoming the Aggies, Cougars and Thunderbirds to ExtraMile Arena, at 6 p.m.

The NCAA Regional Championships are scheduled for March 31-April 2, at one of four sites: Lexington, Kentucky; Seattle, Washington; Auburn, Alabama; and Raleigh, North Carolina. The NCAA Championships are slated for April 15-16, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Smith is in her fifth season at the helm of the Utah State gymnastics program. She was introduced as just the fourth head coach in the history of the program on July 17, 2017.

The Aggies return 11 gymnasts from last year's team that enjoyed one of its finest seasons in program history as the Aggies competed in their 26th NCAA Regional Championship, including their first since 2017.

When the dust finally settled, Utah State ended the year ranked No. 25 in the nation, their best finish since finishing 15th in 1999. The Aggies also tied for 25th in 1998.

Additionally, the Aggies welcome back junior Sofi Sullivan, who opted out of her sophomore season in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
