LOGAN, Utah – Utah State's gymnastics team gave Aggie fans an early glimpse of its 2022 routines during a Blue & White intrasquad meet on Friday night at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

"Tonight was a great start to competition season," said Utah State head coach Amy Smith. "It was so awesome to get back on the Spectrum floor with the team, fans and judges."

Brie Clark recorded the top score of the night as the freshman from Daphne, Alabama, wowed the crowd with a 9.875 on floor.

"It was really fun," Clark said. "There was a lot of energy and it was very exciting. It felt like a meet, so it was exciting and makes me more ready for the season. I expected there to be energy, but I didn't expect this much energy, so it exceeded everything that I thought it was. It's a feeling that I've been looking forward to for years, and it finally happened, and it's better than anything I can imagine."

Clark and the Aggies opened the meet on vault, where she notched a 9.800 to tied fellow freshman Trinity Brown for the top score on the event.

Sophomore Brianna Brooks led Utah State on both beam and bars with scores of 9.775 and 9.750, respectively.

"It's good to know that the hard work I've been putting in at practice is showing up when it counts," Clark said. "The other girls did everything that they do in practice. Now we know what we need to work on, but they just did amazing and knocked it out of the park."

The Aggies will officially open the season at the third-annual Rio Tinto Best of Utah NCAA Gymnastics Meet on Friday, Jan. 7, at 7 p.m., at the Maverik Center in West Valley City. The podium event will also feature in-state rivals BYU, Southern Utah and Utah.

"We are in a really good position," Smith said. "We have some minor tweaks, but we've got the time to execute those adjustments before we get to the Best of Utah meet."
