• Utah State men's basketball (9-4, 0-0 MW) begins Mountain West play this week with a game at Air Force (7-4, 0-0 MW) on Wednesday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m. USU leads the all-time series against the Falcons 21-6, including a 9-6 road record. USU's home game against San José State (6-5, 0-0 MW) on Saturday, Jan. 1, was postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the SJSU program. W, 81-62 --- PORTLAND STATE
• Utah State concluded its non-conference schedule with an 81-62 home win against Portland State. Senior forward Justin Bean led USU with 29 points and 12 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season and the 34th of his career. Sophomore guard Max Shulga added a career-high 18 points and junior guard Sean Bairstow finished with 11 points. USU shot a season-high 57.4 percent (31-of-54), including a season-best 57.1 percent (12-of-21) from 3-point range, and 50.0 percent (7-of-14) at the free throw line. PSU shot 33.3 percent (20-of-60), including 29.6 percent (8-of-27) from 3-point range, and 73.7 percent (14-of-19) at the free throw line.

• Utah State women's basketball (5-5, 0-0 MW) opens Mountain West play this week by hosting Air Force (6-5, 0-0 MW) on Friday, Dec. 31, at 3 p.m. The Aggies are 14-5 all-time against the Falcons, including 8-2 home record. • Utah State lost its lone matchup last week, 103-80, at Montana. Two Aggies scored in double figures in the loss as senior guards Kaylin Randhawa had 20 points and Manna Mensah had 11. Utah State ended the night shooting 36.8 percent (28-of-76) from the floor, 33.3 percent (9-of-27) from behind the arc and 83.3 percent (15-of-18) at the free throw line. Montana shot 58.5 percent (38-of-65) from the field, 63.6 percent (14-of-22) from behind the 3-point line and 86.7 percent (13-of-15) at the free throw line.
