BOISE, Idaho – No. 23 Utah State recorded its fourth-highest road score in school history with a 196.250 Saturday night in a Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference dual meet against No. 25 Boise State at ExtraMile Arena.
The Broncos (3-1, 2-1 MRGC) won the meet with a 196.350, while the 196.250 for the Aggies (1-5, 1-4 MRGC) also ranks 10th all-time in school history.
"I am super proud of the team after seeing them battle back from a rough beginning to the meet," said USU head coach
Amy Smith. "They stayed in it and we came out with a solid road score, which helps us."
Utah State captured two event titles on the night. Senior
Autumn DeHarde won the beam with a season-high-tying 9.925, while fellow senior
Mikaela Meyer won vault for the second-consecutive week with a career-high-tying 9.900.
"We performed well," DeHarde said. "We went out there and did our normal gymnastics that we usually see in practice. Of course, there were areas we could improve on, but overall, we did really well and I can't want to get back out there again next weekend with the team."
DeHarde has now captured a pair of beam titles this season and has 14 in her career, extending her own school record. Her 23 career titles ranks 13th all-time in school history and is just three shy of cracking the top 10.
For Meyer, she has captured the vault crown in the Aggies' last three meets. She has five vault titles in her career, which is tied for 11th all-time in school history.
Utah State started on bars with a 48.950. Sophomore
Maia Fishwick tied for third on the event with a 9.850 in the anchor spot. Four other Aggies recorded 9.775s to tie for seventh.
In the second rotation, Utah State recorded a 49.075 on vault, which is tied for 10th in school history. Meyer led the way with her 9.900, which is tied for eighth all-time in program history. It marked the second straight week that the reigning MRGC Vault Specialist of the Week has notched a 9.900 on the event.
"We brought a lot of energy and focused on ourselves, which helped us a lot tonight," Meyer said. "We went out there, had fun and did our gymnastics. We still have things to work on and I can't wait to get back in the gym this week to work on those details."
The 49.075 on vault is the Aggies' highest score on the event since notching the same score against Boise State on Feb. 17, 2017. Senior
Leighton Varnadore, sophomore
Rebecca Wells and freshman
Brianna Brooks all tied for third with 9.800s.
"I was super excited to see vault break a 49 this year," Smith said. "They did a great job. We switched Rebecca into the lead-off spot, hoping that she would ignite the vault team and she did exactly that. It was great to get Logan (Varnadore) back after being out last weekend.
"BB did one of the best vaults she has done all year and Mik delivered another huge vault in the anchor spot."
Boise State notched a 49.350 on bars in the second rotation and led 98.250-98.025 at the midway point of the meet.
Utah State tallied a season-high 49.100 on floor in the third rotation. DeHarde placed second on the event and she was followed by sophomore
Rebecca Wells, who tied for third with a 9.825.
In their third rotation, the Broncos scored a 49.000 on floor as the Aggies pulled within 147.250-147.125.
Utah State ended the meet on beam, where they recorded a season-best 49.125, marking the third-consecutive meet the Aggies have gone 49.125 or better. DeHarde captured the top honors with a 9.925, while fellow senior
Taylor Dittmar and freshman
Brianna Brooks tied for third with matching 9.850s.
