LOGAN, Utah – Utah State women's tennis (4-4) opened its weekend of competition Saturday, defeating in-state rival Weber State (2-8), 5-2, at home. 

"Weber State is a good team, they're very feisty. I thought we did a good job of staying in matches," said USU head coach Sean McInerney. "We've been working on staying competitive throughout and finding ways to win when things are not perfect. Our execution needs to get better, but I'm proud of the effort from the team and how they hung in there and found a way to win."

The match started with a close doubles battle. The Aggies and Wildcats split the first two results, with sophomore Carolina Millan and junior Annaliese County defeating Megan Lombardi and Sicely Ferreira (6-3) in the No. 3 spot. The Wildcats took the No. 1 doubles match, before USU sophomore Zara Ryan and freshman Lisa Küng clinched the point at No. 2. The Aggie duo battled it out, eventually posting a 7-6 (10-8) win over Pei-Hsuan Kuo and Megan Davies.

Utah State quickly extended its lead with a pair of straight-set singles wins. Küng defeated Lombardi (6-3, 6-4) at the No. 3 spot, while Ryan topped Ana Morett-Salas (6-2, 7-5) at No. 2. Millan clinched the match for the Aggies with a win at No. 1, defeating Yuuna Ukita (6-0, 7-6 (7-5)). The Wildcats earned their points with three-set wins at No. 4 and No. 5. Junior Gabrielle Dekkers wrapped things up for the Aggies with a win in the No. 6 spot, defeating Ferreira (6-3, 7-6 (7-3). 

The Aggies' weekend continues on Sunday, March 14, in a match at nearby Idaho State. USU and ISU met earlier this season in Logan, a 4-3 win for the Bengals.
