Utah State Women’s Tennis Fights Hard in 4-3 Home Loss to San José State Sunday

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State women's tennis fought to the end in its Mountain West home match against San José State on Sunday before losing 4-3. USU falls to 6-10 overall and 1-5 in MW play with the loss, while the Spartans remain unbeaten on the season as they improve to 12-0 overall and 5-0 in league play.
 
Starting the day with doubles, Utah State claimed the point as sophomores Renata Lombera and Carolina Millan posted a 6-1 win at the first position, while juniors Annaliese County and Gabrielle Dekkers notched a 6-2 win at the third position. Sophomore Zara Ryan and freshman Naya Tillitt had their match left unfinished with USU leading 5-4.
 
Moving to singles, San José State's Irena Muradyan started things off with a straight set win against Lombera at the No. 3 spot (6-3, 6-0). County then gave the Aggies their second point of the match with a straight set win at the No. 4 spot (6-3, 6-1). The Spartans then won back-to-back matches as Raquel Villan Pereira defeated freshman Lisa Küng in straight sets at the No. 5 spot (6-4, 6-4), while Alba Pedrero Galindo posted a straight set win against Millan at the No. 1 spot (6-4, 6-3). USU's Ryan followed with a three-set win at the No. 2 spot (3-6, 6-3, 7-5) to tie the match at 3-all. At No. 6 singles, USU redshirt freshman Lillian Okamoto pushed her match to a third set (5-7, 7-6 (7-3), 1-6).
 
Utah State will play its final two road matches of the season next weekend in Fresno, Calif., as it faces Fresno State on Saturday, April 17, at 3 p.m. (MT) and Nevada on Sunday, April 18, at 11 a.m. (MT).
