BOISE, Idaho – Utah State women's tennis (6-7, 1-2 MW) picked up its first Mountain West win of the season Friday, battling to a 4-3 win over San Diego State in Boise, Idaho.

"This was a really great win after a tough first weekend of conference play. San Diego State is such a talented team, but we played Aggie tennis. We moved well and made good decisions, finding a way to win the match," said USU head coach Sean McInerney. "We have another great challenge tomorrow against the defending conference champions, UNLV."

Utah State took the lead early, winning the doubles point with victories in the Nos. 1 and 3 positions. After dropping the first match, the Aggies were back in it as juniors Annaliese County and Gabrielle Dekkers defeated Alexandria Pohrer and Cecile Morin, 6-2. Sophomores Renata Lombera and Carolina Millan then clinched the point with a 6-4 win over Tamara Arnold and Alicia Melosch. 

Things stayed tight through singles play. The Aggies extended their lead as sophomore Zara Ryan quickly defeated Regina Pitts (7-5, 6-3) in the No. 2 spot. The Aztecs bounced back with a win in the No. 4 position, but Aggie redshirt freshman Lillian Okamoto followed with a tiebreak win (6-2, 7-6 (7-4)) over Pohrer at No. 6. 

The remaining matches all went three sets, with San Diego State tying the score at 3-3 with wins in the Nos. 3 and 1 positions. County split her first two sets against Melosch, taking the first 7-5 before dropping a tiebreak, 7-6 (7-4). She then went on to take the third, 6-4, clinching the win for the Aggies. 

Utah State stays in Boise for another conference match on Saturday, April 3. The Aggies will play UNLV at 2 p.m.
