USAFA, Colo. – Utah State's golf team opened its first tournament of the 2021 fall season by shooting a 19-over 317 on Day 1 of the Air Force-hosted Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational on Friday at the Eisenhower Golf Club (Blue Course).
 
The Aggies are in 18th place, while UC Davis is in first place at 9-under, four shots better than San Jose State. Denver is in third at 2-under 286, Wyoming is fourth at 1-over 289 and Nevada is in fifth at 2-over 290.
 
Jesse Henderson led the Aggies on Day 1 of the three-day tournament, as the senior shot a 3-over 75 and is tied for 46th. Freshman Luis Gerardo Cantu made his Aggie debut by firing a 4-over 76. He is tied for 58th.
 
Sophomore Javier Vazquez and freshman Julio Arrante Sanchez are tied for 76th as each Aggie carded a 6-over 78. Rounding out the scoring for Utah State was senior Cameron Tucker, who is tied for 90th after opening with a 7-over 79.
 
Denver's Jackson Solem is in the clubhouse with a one-shot lead after opening with a 6-under 66. UTEP's Greg Yellin and Northern Colorado's TJ Shehee are tied for second at 5-under 67.
 
Golfers will play 18 holes Saturday with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m., while Sunday's tee times will begin at 7:15 a.m. Live scoring for the team competition will be available on GolfStat.com.
