Utah State Golf Returns to Centennial State for Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational

Aggies one of 18 teams playing in 54-hole tournament

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State's golf team returns to action this week at the 11th annual Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational. The 54-hole tournament will be played on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 27-28, at the par-72, 7,676-yard Colorado National Golf Club (CNGC) in Erie, Colorado.
 
CNGC has hosted previous U.S. Amateur qualifiers, Colorado PGA Section championships, the 2011 NCAA Colorado Men's Regional and the 2012 NCAA Women's West Regional.
 
Playing in foursomes, the golfers will play 36 holes in a shotgun start on Monday, at 8:15 a.m. The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday in a staggered shotgun format. The top four teams will play in five tee times off of No. 1, beginning at 8:10 a.m.; the rest of the field in a shotgun at 8:30 a.m.
 
Along with the Aggies and host Colorado, the 18-team field includes Air Force, Boise State, Denver, Grand Canyon, Missouri-Kansas City, Northern Colorado, Prairie View A&M, San Diego, San Francisco, Southern Utah, UT-Arlington, UTEP, Utah, Utah Valley, Wichita State and Wyoming. Including individuals, a total of 104 golfers will be competing.
 
Scheduled to compete this week for the Aggies are freshman Esteban Jaramillo (No. 1), seniors Jesse Henderson (No. 2) and Cameron Tucker (No. 3), sophomore Javier Vazquez (No. 4) and freshman Luis Gerardo Cantú (No. 5).
 
In its last outing, Utah State placed 16th in the 16-team field last week at the Colorado State-hosted Ram Masters Invitational, which was played at the Fort Collins Country Club in Fort Collins, Colorado.
 
Henderson turned in the Aggies' best round on the final day as he shot a 4-over 70. Climbing 12 spots up the leaderboard, he finished tied for 62nd overall at 32-over 242. Jaramillo was the top Aggie placer as he tied for 46th (239, +29). Gerardo Cantú and Tucker both tied for 62nd, while sophomore Purin Yingpisit placed 72nd (244, +34).
