LOGAN, Utah – For the first time in nearly 12 years, Utah State's golf team will be playing on its home turf.
The Aggies welcome Weber State to the Logan Golf & Country Club on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 4-5, for the Utah State-WSU Cup. The Ryder Cup-style event will be played over two days and feature 36 holes of competition on the first day and 18 more on the second.
Play will begin Saturday at 9:30 a.m., with 18 holes of best ball, followed by 18 holes of alternate shot. The event will conclude Sunday with 18 holes of individual match play, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Utah State's eight-man roster in 2021-22 consists of seniors
Jesse Henderson and
Cameron Tucker, sophomores
Spencer Panter,
Javier Vazquez and
Purin Yingpisit, and freshmen Julio Arronte Sánchez, Luis Gerardo Cantú and
Esteban Jaramillo.
Dean Johansen is in his 22nd season as head coach of the Aggies. During the 2020-21 season, which did not include the fall campaign due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Johansen's Aggies finished in the top 10 in all six of their tournaments, including placing in the top five on four occasions.
Utah State won the inaugural UC San Diego Invitational with a 29-over 893 (299-294-300), marking just the second time the Aggies have ever won a tournament on California soil, according to available records.
Academically speaking, Henderson, Tucker and Yingpisit garnered both academic all-Mountain West and MW Scholar-Athlete accolades, while Panter and Vazquez each earned academic all-MW honors.
The last time Utah State hosted an event was on Sept. 25-26, 2009. It was also a Ryder Cup-style match with USU defeating Southern Utah 6.5-5.5.
