LOGAN, Utah – Utah State's gymnastics team is set to kick off the home portion of its 2022 season against Air Force on Friday, Jan. 14, when it welcomes Air Force to the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. The non-conference dual meet between the Aggies and Falcons will begin at 6 p.m.

The 11th-ranked Aggies (2-1, 2-0 MRGC) are 216-141 all-time inside the Spectrum, including a perfect 2-0 mark against the Falcons (0-0, 0-0 MPSF). Utah State leads the all-time series with Air Force 13-1 and won the last matchup between the two teams 195.550-192.375 on Jan. 25, 2019, at the Academy.

Friday's meet will be streamed online at utahstateaggies.com/watch, as well as on the team's Facebook page. Additionally, live scoring will be available online at utahstateaggies.com, and Aggie fans can also follow the Utah State gymnastics social media outlets for meet updates.

Air Force has not competed in Logan since the 2015 campaign, when the Aggies posted a 193.975-186.675 victory. The Falcons' lone win victory over Utah State was in 2002, 193.775-193.400, at the NCAA Regional Championships in Denver, Colorado.

Utah State opened its 2022 campaign by placing second out of four teams at the third-annual Rio Tinto Best of Utah Meet on Jan. 7, at the Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah. Utah won the meet with a 197.100, followed by the Aggies with a 195.875. BYU took third with a 195.225, while Southern Utah finished fourth with a 195.000.

Utah State's score of 195.875 is the highest season-opening score in the history of the program, easily surpassing the 194.600 it scored at the Pittsburgh quad meet in 2019. Junior Rebecca Wells won the all-around with a 39.125, bettering the 38.950 turned in by Utah freshman Grace McCallum, who was a member of the silver medal-winning 2020 U.S. Olympic Team.

Of the seven freshmen on the roster, four of them made their debut for the Aggies, including Brie Clark, who helped cap the meet for USU by winning the floor title with a 9.925, which is tied for 17th all-time in school history.

Clark's 9.925 is the best season-opening score on floor – home or away – by a Utah State gymnast in school history, while Wells' 39.125 is the best season-opening road score in the all-around in school history.

With her 9.925 on floor, Clark currently leads the MRGC and is tied for sixth in the nation on the event, while Wells is tops in the conference and tied for 20th nationally in the all-around.

Entering Friday's meet, the Aggies are tied for ninth nationally on floor (49.100), tied for 10th on beam (49.100), rank 15th on bars (48.850) and are tied for 20th on vault (48.825).

Utah State is back at home on Friday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m., when the Aggies square off against MRGC-rival Boise State.
