Utah State Cross Country Teams Both Ranked In Top 10 of Week 5 Regional Rankings

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State's men's cross country team ranks No. 6 in Week 5 of the NCAA DI Cross Country Regional Rankings, which were released Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
 
On the women's side, the Aggies dropped four spots to No. 10 in the Mountain Region.
 
The top two spots in the men's Mountain Region remained unchanged with BYU at No. 1 and Northern Arizona at No. 2, while Air Force climbed one spot to No. 3, Colorado dropped down one spot to No. 4 and Montana State climbed one spot to No. 5.
 
The Aggies, who are ranked No. 23 nationally, dropped one spot from No. 5 after they placed 16th out of 36 teams last Friday at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin. Senior Camren Todd led Utah State as he placed 25th with a time of 23:31.0 on the 8K Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course.
 
Stanford captured the men's title with 54 points, while BYU finished second with 89 points. The Aggies recorded 443 points to place 16th, but they beat five nationally-ranked teams in the process in No. 28 Georgetown (17th, 457 points), No. 20 Harvard (21st, 538), No. 11 Iowa State (22nd, 543), No. 27 Michigan State (23rd, 608) and No. 14 Gonzaga (26th, 682).
 
Besides the Aggies and Falcons, four other schools from the Mountain West are in the top 15 of the region in Colorado State (seventh; no change), Wyoming (eighth; no change), Nevada (11th; up one) and New Mexico (12th; down one).
 
On the women's side, the top five teams in the Mountain Region remain unchanged with New Mexico at No. 1, Northern Arizona at No. 2, BYU at No. 3, Utah at No. 4 and Colorado at No. 5.
 
Utah State dropped four spots from No. 6 to No. 10 after the Aggies, who are ranked No. 23 in the nation, placed 28th at Nuttycombe. Sophomore Ana Weaver was USU's top finisher as she placed 75th with a time of 20:41.2.
 
Besides the Aggies and Lobos, four other schools from the MW are in the top 15 of the region in Colorado State (sixth; up two), Air Force (eighth; up two), Wyoming (ninth; no change) and Nevada (15th; no change).
 
Regional rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning teams' strength with current season results (if applicable) in determining a rank-order of squad potential. Only USTFCCCA member programs are eligible to receive a ranking. Teams with provisional status within the region may be ranked.
 
The Aggies return to action on Friday, Oct. 21, at 11 a.m., at the Utah Open in Salt Lake City.
