LOGAN, Utah - Utah State soccer seniors
Sammie Murdock and
Diera Walton have been named the Mountain West Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, after leading the Aggies to a 2-0 win over Boise State.

In a must-win match versus the Broncos, Murdock opened the game with a flurry, scoring 23 seconds into the match. Murdock also assisted on USU's second goal of the game. She finished with a line of three total points on one goal and one assist, placing one shot on goal out of two total shots to help Utah State secure their spot in the Mountain West tournament.

It is Murdock's first time in her career being named the MW Player of the Week.

Walton, meanwhile, recorded a shutout on the day with five saves. The shutout was the 20th of her career and also extends USU's shutout streak to four games, tied for the longest such streak since the team went six matches without conceding a goal in 2011. Walton moved into second place all-time at Utah State in goalkeeper minutes played with 5,570 minutes played, moving past former Aggie Ali Griffin. Walton now trails only former Aggie Molli Merrill's mark of 5,713 minutes played.

It is Walton's fourth time being named the MW Defensive Player of the Week. Walton previously won the award twice in the fall of 2021 and once during the spring 2021 season.
