LOGAN, Utah – Utah State head softball coach
Steve Johnson announced the 2023 schedule, featuring four preseason tournaments, as well as two in-state rivals and a full slate of Mountain West competition.
Â
Utah State will play against teams from eight different conferences in 2023.
Â
"This schedule has a lot of little quirks in it, but we like what this schedule offers us," Johnson said. "There are a lot of preseason games where we can be competitive and, hopefully, carry a lot of momentum into the Mountain West schedule. From an experience standpoint, we get to play four games at the legendary Easton Field at UCLA, while also taking on a Pac-12 opponent in Cal. We also have a good number of home games for our fans beyond the normal MW schedule."
Â
USU opens the 2023 season by competing in the Cal State Fullerton/UCLA/LMU Tournament from Feb. 10-12. There, the Aggies will play CSU Bakersfield twice, as well as games against Cal State Fullerton, Loyola Marymount and California.
Â
Utah State next plays at the Saint Mary's Tournament from Feb. 17-19, with the Aggies taking on Saint Mary's, UC San Diego and San José State.
Â
USU then will participate in the Grand Canyon Tournament from Feb. 24-26, facing GCU, Montana and South Dakota.
Â
The Aggies wrap up non-conference tournament play at the Silicon Valley Classic II from March 10-12. There, the Aggies will play Santa Clara, CSUN and UC Davis.
Â
Utah State and Utah Valley have a home-and-home series in 2023 as the Aggies play in Orem on March 14 before hosting the Wolverines in Logan on April 18.
Â
USU's final non-conference games will be at BYU on March 23, against Saint Mary's in Logan on March 25-26 and against Idaho State on March 28.
Â
USU will open its home and league slate against New Mexico, hosting the Lobos from March 17-19. The Aggies are also set to host San Diego State (April 6-8), Fresno State (April 15-16) and UNLV (April 28-30). Road conference match-ups include Nevada (March 31-April 2), Colorado State (April 12), Boise State (April 21-23) and San José State (May 4-6).
Â
The Mountain West is reinstalling its conference tournament, which will run from May 11-14 in San Diego, California. The NCAA Regionals are from May 18-21, Super Regionals are May 25-28 and the Women's College World Series is June 1-9.
