LOGAN, Utah – Utah State gymnastics is ranked No. 34 in the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) preseason poll, it was announced Friday morning by the organization.
All four teams from the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference are ranked in the top 34.
Oklahoma earned the top spot in the preseason poll with 1,727 points and 22 first-place votes. Florida was second with 1,724 points and 21 first-place votes, while Utah (1,648 points; two first-place votes), Michigan (1,600 points; four first-place votes) and Auburn (1,509 points) rounded out the top-five teams in the nation.
BYU is the top MRGC team in the preseason poll as the Cougars are ranked No. 22 with 674 points. Boise State checks in at No. 26 with 501 points and Southern Utah is No. 28 with 455 points. The Aggies earned 212 points.
The Aggies, who return 12 gymnasts from last year's squad that enjoyed one of its finest seasons in program history, are under the direction of first-year head coach Kristin White.
Utah State capped the 2022 campaign by placing third in Session 1 of the second round of the NCAA Norman Regional on March 31, at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Oklahoma. USU ended the year ranked No. 23 in the nation.
The Aggies scored at least a 49.075 on each event en route to finishing with a team score of 196.825, which is the highest score in program history for an NCAA regional meet and also ranks third all-time in school history.
Utah State captured its first-ever Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference championship in 2022 as the Aggies recorded a season-high 197.025, which ranks second all-time in school history. It proved to be USU's sixth conference title overall and its first since 2005 (Western Gymnastics Conference).
With the official start to the 2023 season less than a month away, Aggie Nation can catch its first glimpse of Utah State's gymnastics team at the Aggie Blue & White Intrasquad Meet tonight, at 6 o'clock, at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
Admission is free and open to the public. The Aggies will perform routines on all four events and be judged in front of fans.
