LOGAN, Utah – Utah State's golf team is set to open the spring portion of its 2021-22 season on Friday, Feb. 11, at the Pizza Hut-Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational in St. George, Utah.

The Aggies will join 13 other teams at the Southern Utah-hosted event, which will take place Friday through Sunday, at the 6,900-yard, par-72 Sunbrook Golf Club. The tournament will feature one, 18-hole round per day.

Along with the Aggies and host Thunderbirds, the 14-team field is comprised of Dixie State, Fairleigh Dickinson, Middle Tennessee, North Dakota, North Dakota State, Oral Roberts, Sacramento State, South Dakota State, Southern Illinois, Utah Valley, Weber State and Western Illinois.

Scheduled to compete this weekend are senior Cameron Tucker (No. 1), senior Jesse Henderson (No. 2), freshman Luis Cantu (No. 3), freshman Julio Arronte Sanchez (No. 4) and sophomore Javier Vazquez (No. 5).

Sophomore John Cook, redshirt sophomore Spencer Panter and sophomore Purin Yingpisit will compete as individuals.

At the 2021 Pizza Hut-Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational, Utah State finished tied for fourth against a 12-team field as it posted a 54-hole team score of 8-under 856 (290-276-290). Utah captured the team title at 41-under par (823), while Utah Valley (838, -26) was second and host SUU (843, -21) was third.

Utah State won the 2019 Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational with a 3-under-par 573 (287-286). It marked the Aggies' first tournament win since Oct. 17, 2017, when they claimed the tournament title at the CSUN-hosted Bill Cullum Invitational.

This is the Aggies' first tournament since Oct. 12, 2021, when they concluded their fall season by tying for fifth at the Bill Cullum Invitational at 34-over 898.

Esteban Jaramillo was Utah State's top finisher at Cullum Invite as the freshman from Bogota, Colombia, tied for fifth at 2-over 218, a career low. However, he is not with the Aggies this weekend as he is one of three amateurs playing in the Astara Golf Championship presented by Mastercard at the Country Club of Bogota, his home course.
