Meet Notes - @ No. 25 SUU
LOGAN, Utah – Utah State's 21st-ranked gymnastics team continues its season on the road when the Aggies travel south for a top-25 Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference showdown against No. 25 Southern Utah on Friday, Feb. 11, at the America First Event Center in Cedar City.
The dual meet featuring the Aggies (7-3, 3-1 MRGC) and the Thunderbirds (3-5, 1-4) is slated to begin at 7 p.m., and streamed live on
ESPN+ ($). Live scoring will be available online at
suutbirds.com. Aggie fans can also follow the Utah State gymnastics social media outlets for meet updates.
At 7-3 overall, the Aggies are off to their best start yet under fifth-year head coach
Amy Smith. This is also Utah State's best start to a season since opening the 1999 campaign under Ray Corn at 11-1.
Utah State comes into the meet fresh off a tri-meet sweep over these same Thunderbirds and Ball State, last Friday at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. The Aggies recorded a 196.425, which is the fifth-highest home score in school history.
Southern Utah placed second in the meet with a 195.550, while the Cardinals placed third with a 194.350.
Throughout the meet, the Aggies paid tribute to Corn, the first head coach in program history, who died last August, at the age of 71. USU gymnasts wore "RC" patches on their warmups and donned "RC" temporary tattoos in memory of Corn while they competed. Video segments recounting Corn's impact on Utah State, Aggie alums and the gymnastics community were played throughout the meet.
The Aggies lead the all-time series with the Thunderbirds 55-53, including a pair of victories this season. In fact, USU has captured the last four meetings against SUU, but has not won in Cedar City since March 24, 2018, a span of three meets.
Southern Utah is tied for 21st nationally on vault (49.015) and ranked 15th on bars (49.085). Individually, Caitlin Kho is tied for 18th in the nation on vault (9.875).
Utah State currently ranks 18th nationally on bars (49.025) and 13th on beam (49.135).
