ST. GEORGE, Utah — Utah State women's tennis swept Dixie State, 7-0, at the Trailblazer Tennis Courts on Friday. It is USU's fourth consecutive sweep of the Trailblazers, comprising the entire series history between the two teams.
The Aggies secured the doubles point with victories on courts one and three. Juniors Carolina Millan and Zeynep Naz Ozturk defeated DSU's Rachel Mellor and Juliana Honzaruk, 6-0, at the one-spot while seniors Annaliese County and Gabrielle Dekkers combined to defeat Sabrina Longson and Jane Dorny, 6-1.
USU's momentum continued throughout singles play. Freshman Brooke Demerath claimed the first dual-match victory in her career, defeating Dorny, 6-0, 6-1. County also won in straight sets over Longson, 6-1, 6-1. At the one-spot, sophomore Lisa Küng outlasted Alexandra Hildreth in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
Both Dekkers and Naz Ozturk emerged victorious in third-set tiebreakers. Dekkers pulled out the win over Mellor, 6-3, 5-7, 10-2, while Naz Ozturk won versus Honzaruk, 6-4, 3-6, 10-6. Millan won her singles match over Ya-Chi Hsu via retirement.
The Aggies will continue their season on Sunday, returning home to face Weber State at 11 am (MT).
