LOGAN, Utah – Utah State women's tennis lost to BYU, 5-2, on Friday at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club. The loss snapped a four-match winning streak for the Aggies.
 
USU started strong in doubles play. Seniors Gabrielle Dekkers and Annaliese County scored a 6-2 victory for the Aggies at the second position before juniors Carolina Millan and Zeynep Naz Ozturk clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win at the No. 1 spot to give Utah State the early 1-0 advantage.
 
In singles play, the Aggies' momentum soon vanished. Sophomore Lisa Küng fell at the second spot, 6-1, 6-1, to tie the match at one apiece. After a promising start to the match, Millan also lost at the first position, 6-3, 6-1. Moments later, Naz Ozturk fell in the No. 3 matchup, 6-4, 6-0. At the fourth position, junior Zara Ryan took the first set but was unable to secure a second set in a 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 defeat to clinch the match for BYU. 
 
Playing the rest of singles to completion, County scored USU's only singles victory at the fifth position with a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5) win. Redshirt junior Sidnee Lavatai then fell in the No. 6 spot, 6-2, 6-4, for the final tally.
 
Utah State (4-2) now heads on the road for a seven-match road trip starting at UC Davis on Monday, March 7, at 1:30 p.m. (MT).
